Butte Unite Parents and Players
Helping to Make Wildwood Better

challenger

Thank you to all the parents and kids who came out for our Wildwood Cleanup night on July 1.  We had a great turnout, with representation from most of our teams, and made a tremendous improvement in just two short hours.  You can see from the photo below that we also had a break in the smoke and could actually see the buttes and foothills.  We had about 30 adults, a dozen kids, the Bobcat, two quads with trailers, and lots and lots of shovels.  We even had several fire fighters who graciously donated their precious spare time.  Chris brought water and lemonade for all, and we went through about 7 yards of dirt.

Later that week, members of the Butte United Board met with the City and the landscape contractors to walk the fields of Wildwood and discuss future plans.  The City and their contractor will be doing more work.  Once again, the fields will greatly benefit from the extra hands and effort that the Club can put into it – the City’s budget for labor only goes so far.  We will have another call for a Wildwood Cleanup night, hopefully in July.  It won’t come with much notice, due to the critical timing and nature of the work.  I’ll follow up with more details on what’s being done when I have the information.

Butte United Fund Raiser!!

We have a fun-filled evening planned to help raise money for Butte United. On August 14, Butte United will be holding our annual fundraiser at the 3 Chico Round Table locations. Tickets will be turned in when dinner is purchased and Round Table will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to our soccer club. Proceeds will go to our general fund and help the Club pay for equipment purchases, training, coaching and referee clinics and other operating expenses. Teams are also encouraged to hold additional fund raisers at their location, including bake sales, silent auction, etc. The teams at the location that raises the most money will each receive a new game ball! Let the games begin!!

Look to the Team Parents to organize this event and communicate planning and expectations to each of the teams. Below are the teams that will be at each of the locations:

Mangrove: U14 Boys (Lightning), U14 Boys (Renegades), U15 Girls, U16 Girls
Pillsbury: U10 Boys (Bruce's team), U11 Boys, U14 Girls (Heat), U14 Girls (Legacy)
Forest: U10 Boys (Galaxy), U11 Girls, U12 Girls, U12 Boys

Team Parent Committee!

Butte United Coach Mike Hernandez has organized a newly-formed committee of Team Parents. This committe has been hard at work since January to organize the Butte United Tryouts, and in some cases, making great changes to the tryout check in. They created flyers and banners and blanketed our towns and schools with dates. It paid off as we had great turnout each of our tryout days. Thank you Coach Hernandez and each of the parents that volunteered their time to make this happen.

As the season progresses and teams are formed, each coach will hold an election to name the Elected Team Parent. This person will help Butte United Board communicate to the teams, sharing important information such as set up and take down expectations, volunteer needs, code of conduct and player expectations, and fund raiser needs. We look forward to this group of parents helping us create a successful 2008 season and bring news and needs to all of our families.
